Islands in the Stream

This new little island was created with the spring thaw and run-off, which is substantial this season. The current drove into the soft bank and cut off this little piece. This is why the Bitterroot is called a braided river....it meanders all over the valley floor; cutting new channels for itself and abandoning others. It has actually moved further west through the last century. In any case, it's too high to fish right now, but an excellent place to sit and contemplate one's navel.
