Sponge Jousting

Day two of the field trip started early.....since...ummmmm 23 kids and 6 adults in a gym.  One of the parents made everyone a lovely breakfast of sausage, biscuits, hard boiled eggs, hash browns and porridge.  This was a good hearty breakfast to fuel these kids for another day of challenges....both mental and physical.  The activities started with a LONG game of "The Donut of Death".  It was hilarious to watch.  Sort of like the big rolling stone in "the temple of doom" movie.  The running....and screaming......so funny!  Lots of hard work for the kids though.  The sun was blazing again...and sunburns were aplenty.

After a morning snack, they split up again into stations where one Shire competed against another shire. Pictured above is the Wet Sponge Jousting.  Sugar's shield was designed and painted by her.  This was a fun event to watch.  There was also tug of war over the moat of water....some more archery.....a game where they had to put giant wet clothes on over their own clothes and run a distance...come back, take them off, and the next person has to go.  This was hilarious.  There was also Cabor Tossing.  This took strength.

After lunch was the relay.  They had to start by spinning around 15 times, jumping through a maze of ropes, climbing under three picnic tables, over a wall, across a balance beam, balance a frisbee on a stick, walk on stilts, jump over and under many other obstacles, and finally finish with a sack race.  My goodness.....such work on a hot day.

I dare say that the kids were glad to see the games come to a close.  The parents were happy to be heading home....this I know.  The bus dropped Sugar off at my parent's farm, and I made it home to a husband who was still sick.  Poor guy!  Off to bed early....him for being sick...and me for being exhausted.
