Nellie and Barry's Festival
Today was Nellie of The Woods and Barry's Festival Day - craft workshops organised by her and music by him! My sister and I were there to set up at 9.30 and at 10 the fun started! 5 Craft workshops aimed at adults but suitable for children - which was good as only the children did them - with some parental help! Such beautiful children in every sense of the word - just interested, focused, polite, friendly and well behaved - and just the cutest children! I said this to one grandmother and she said Calstock just bred them that way!
Once I had got my camera back on aperture priority and all other settings restored as I liked after all the changes to try and get storm photos - I began to photograph the days activities - workshops, kitchen prep, village green views of all the people, musical performers, including 3 young girls with such pure voices and amazing composure given they must have been around 10 years old! There were activities such as face painting and a stall doing hair weaving by a well tattooed man who I had a great chat and photo session with,! As well ads the festival there was the bikers doing their stuff on the back field, 8 open gardens in aid of St Lukes Hospice and a fab plant stall and a chess tournament in The Chapel! There was not a single bad word, action, vibe or incident the whole day - not even from the multitude of dogs! The weather held much to everyone's delight - the forecast had been dire!
At 2 my sister and I took our meze meal onto the green and just enjoyed the good vibes. She did her workshop for another then went home and I carried on chatting to people I knew and taking photographs! The last event was Big Beat - a charismatic local leading the children with virtually no words just actions in a musical expression of sheer fun - banging plastic barrels, drums of hoovers, shopping carts and long tubes with plastic beaters and pipes!
A wonderful community day - Calstock people are very creative!
I took over 500 photographs, whittled it down to 400, and processed a quarter so far! So I may be absent for a while with them to do and my sister to entertain! I chose this photo as I loved her at the time banging the drums so determinedly and her photo stood out in my mind! I did get permission from parents for all the children I photographed.
