Ancient Jetty
We were up early this morning (for us) and dropped off our old friend Damir at the airport for his flight home. We needed a couple of things from the nearby IKEA but they were still shut so we talk a walk in the nearby delta nature reserve.
Here we have walked to the end of the road, and a little further to the end of the land, and then onto an old stone jetty, sticking out into the sea.
In the old days the main way to move logs from the forest to the factory was by floating them down the rivers. When they arrived at the sea they needed sorting into huge rafts, ready to be towed by tugs to the pulp and paper mills. I guess this jetty was built to help in that task. The heyday of such activities was the 1930's to the 1950's but I saw the last of the floating activities in the 1980's.
As you can see it was a lovely day.
Later we spent hours looking at caravans and camper vans and now we are thinking deeply about the next step. Exciting times!
