Avdou
As it was a bit overcast we decided on a drive to Avdou to try and locate the church in the cave called Agia Fotini that's about 5 miles from the village along a dirt track near the top of Mount Louloudaki at an altitude of 760 metres.
The dirt track twists up a narrow crumbling surface with sheer drops in places such that you wouldn't want to make a mistake. On the way up it started raining. Within 100 metres of the church, and in sight of it, there was the most severe thunder and lightning. I had to stop as the wipers could not cope! Mrs BB was terrified and cursing me. As the storm eased and I was about to drive back down the track there was an almightly flash in front of the car and terrific bang. The drive back down was terrifying with water streaming down it and the sheer drops on some sections had me concentrating intensely!
On getting back to Avdou village, Mrs BB had a headache and we went into a Taverna for a cuppa. Following this we had a walk aroud the village where I took the blipfoto of a local walking to the village shop. We then headed back to the hotel where it was brighter and guests were around the pool.
Some more friends are flying out to visit us this Wednesday and I'll return to the church (walking the last mile!) with my mate; Mrs BB has vowed never to return there!
