Hummingbird hawk moth
We had a lazy morning, just relaxing, reading blips, browsing Facebook, looking at some of the spoofs of the Maybot. We then finally stirred ourselves, and have been out to "Natural Surroundings" to get some more plants - they specialise in wildflowers. Our original intention was to get there in time to have a walk around their gardens. But a combination of the less than wonderful weather (very dull, constantly threatening rain, though not really doing so) and our lazy morning meant that was not an option. We had a very late lunch, then spent a lot some money, and came home. Never mind, we now have an excuse to return there.
Arriving home at 5.30, I still had no photos. So I went for a wander in the garden. There's a lilac iris now flowering by the pond, so I got some close ups, with the yellow iris in the background.
As I was walking back to the house, I saw this on the candelabra primulas, and managed a couple of photos before it flew away. I've heard of these, but never seen one before. If you look you can see the proboscis in the flower. According to wiki, it is reported to return to the same flower beds at the same time of day - so we'll have to look out for it tomorrow evening.
The iris will still be there tomorrow, so I had to blip the moth.
