City Lights

Blatant cheating, I'm afraid, but as it's 54 F, gloomy, and threatening to rain for the rest of the day, I didn't think a photograph of Memorial Day traffic jams as seen through a smeared windshield as we make our way back to Connecticut would be a very appetizing option.  (See extra as a good case in point!)

Instead I offer you this spectacular view of Boston as seen from the top of the Prudential Tower yesterday evening. 

We celebrated Mr. W's birthday up there with a delicious dinner, and oohed and aahed at the sparkling city laid out at our feet.  The tall building in the center of the picture is the former John Hancock building (now known by the more prosaic title of 200 Clarendon), the brightly lit road on the left hand side is Boylston Street, and the highway curving off to the right is the Mass Pike.  The darker area of lower buildings on the right side of the picture is the neighbourhood known as the South End, and if you look closely at the horizon to the right of 200 Clarendon, you will see a red band of lights which look a bit like an epaulet on the shoulder of a military jacket.  That's one of the runways at Logan Airport.  Also admired, but not visible in this shot were the silky black waters of the Charles River, and the bright lights of Cambridge on the far bank.
