Diary of an Edinburgher

Techno-babble

Half and hour on the torture machine cross trainer. Today I decided that the torture exercise must continue. JR, on her visit to the supermarket yesterday brought home a box of different own brand Magnums to try, so in the interests of science, the diet is postponed another wee while.

The torture exercise was especially tortuous this morning. I always watch something on my iPad to distract from my suffering, and this morning I watched an old (1990) episode of Drop the Dead Donkey. I never watched it at the time, but I was always under the impression that it was funny. It is NOT. This made my half hour interminably long, painful and very tedious, because it's hard to change things when wobbling about on the trainer.

I went across the Links to buy some new RAM. Saw a few dog walkers in the distance, but didn't approach them for a possible photo. Perhaps they saw me first...

Anyway, hastened back with two of the expensive little thingies, thus doubling my RAM. This sounds good, but I don't really have any idea what I'm talking about. Fiddled about getting them in. Switched on. Didn't seem much different. Checked on the specs to see if indeed it now had 4GB of RAM. Does that sound like I'm terribly techno-savvy? I had to ring the shop to ask how to check it. One memory slot was 'empty'. I changed them round, switched on. Now the other memory slot was 'empty'. I did this three times and came to the conclusion that it was a faulty RAM thingie.

Back to the shop to swap it. No dog walkers. Grey sky, so no dappled sunlight through the trees. Was almost back home when this chap appeared. I must have been grinning broadly at him from afar, because when I got to him he smiled back and said hello. I told him I liked his hat and asked if I could take a photo. He was a charming young man, visiting a university friend and was going back down to Chester today. I liked his style.

Back home with my new RAM. Stuck it in. Checked the specs. NO! Still 'empty'. I will have to take the computer across to the shop tomorrow. Drat!

But the day has not been wasted. I got my blip. Another one of a man with an eye for a fashion statement. Is this a trend?
