After the Fall

Trip into London today , starting with the Royal Academy to see the stunning exhibition After the Fall of American Artists of the 1930's and 1940's.  Some old favorites like Hopper and Jackson Pollock, and new finds like Helen Lundeberg and Grant Wood.

What did strike us was the similarity between Hopper's "City LIfe" and and some of the paintings of Jack Vetriano.  Probably get struck down for saying so, but I enjoy both.

After that a short trip to King's Place a gallery and concert hall up on Regents Canal by Kings Cross.  Dinner outside in the very good restaurant overlooking the canal and the wild life and then a lovely concert that is part of their "Cello Unwrapped" series with the Geneva Camerata and Jean-Guihen Queyras.  One of the pieces was Haydn's second Cello Concerto which I adore and has memories right back to Hotel School in 1970 and Saudi in the 80's.  Wonderful interpretation.
