Kotare family
It’s been a while since we had a free weekend up at the beach house. After waiting for the fog to lift this morning before setting off, it was almost midday by the time we got here. That was getting close to low tide, and I hoped to see some birds when I went down for a shoreline jog. The best way to see the waders was to go out onto the mudflats. That also got me close enough to this family group of kotare (kingfishers). Around the headland to our beach, and I saw in the distance a takatu (Australasian gannet) flying above the south end of Algies Bay. Nice to be back here.
