Amer Fort
Located in Amer, just outside Jaipur. We had another early start to see the fort before the heat became unbearable.
Built in red sandstone and marble, the fort (or palace as it is often known as) is laid out on four levels, each with its own courtyard. For a long time it was the residence of the Rajput Maharajas and their families. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and as such, the Indians, in common with everywhere other sites, worship it by allowing plastic bottles, litter, dead dogs and just about anything else they don't want or need anymore, to build up around it and in the lake at its foot.
