Fountains Abbey

Uggghhhh - long old drive up to Scotland today.  How to do this with children, this was the quandary.  We have friends who live in Yorkshire, the original plan was to see them for the day before completing the drive up to Edinburgh, but they weren't around today. 

So, instead we went to Fountains Abbey, we had a great picnic in the sun, burnt up lots of energy and I reminisced about my friends getting married in this church.  They used to live very close to Fountains Abbey and had special permission to marry in this church, the reception was in the grounds and it was one of the best weddings I've been to. 

We're with a friend for a couple of nights who has a beautiful apartment in an old stately home - it's so nice you're terrified of doing We're in for a lovely few days, catching up with her, then seeing extended family at the weekend.  Perfect escape after the stresses of the exams.
