Iris, Greek Goddess Of The Rainbow.

This lovely flower is named after the goddess Iris, who was a messenger on Mount Olympus. She would take messages from the eye of Heaven, to the Earth, via the arc of the rainbow. As we have iris as the centre of our eyes, it means we carry a piece of Heaven with us. Greek men would plant an iris on the grave of a beloved woman as a tribute to the goddess, whose duty it was, to take their souls to the Elysian Fields. The flower represents faith, wisdom and valour and is a symbol of Divine protection.  In Indian and Egyptian cultures, the iris is used in art to depict life resurrection, A friend from junior schooldays visited today and brought me a lovely bunch of iris from her garden. We both agreed that neither of us had changed a bit, well not much !
