Telling Stories
Recently a good friend from Germany called me and invited me to write a series of short stories in the tradition of Latin-American magic realism. He now works for a German online-magazine for literature and remembered that, more than 15 years ago, I used to write stories and publish them in my (now extinct) weblog and different magazines.
I resisted at first because it's been ages since I've written anything creative in German. But then the idea began to appeal to me: I've always loved magic realism, especially Julio Cortázar. And I'd be totally free to create whatever I wanted within that genre.
When I write a story I always start with a image (mental or physical, like a photograph). While I compose that image, the story begins to develop, and the plot unfolds. Isabella and I spent more than an hour arranging and composing today's blip. Post-production took another hour or two, and it was Isabella who insisted on the dark feel of it. The story that developed from here will be published next week. I will inform the link for the German-speaking readers as soon as it is available.
