St Kentigern's under the stars

Another clear, dark night in the country means ideal conditions for beautiful starry skies. Being a good 20km from the nearest batch of street lights means that my neck-of-the-woods is often bathed in pure moonlight and treated to fantastic views of the heavens.
Driving past our local parish church tonight, I decided to capture it in a way I have never done before, side lighting the building with the headlights of the car.
St Kentigern's is a small and charming church, and it is an integral part of the history of our small settlement. The first services were held in Kaituna in 1866 at the old Parkinson homestead, the original settlers at Kaituna, and it was on that families land that the current Kaituna stone building was established several generations later in 1933. The church is constructed from a combination of materials, with the locally quarried volcanic Kaituna stone being most prominent.
Today St Kentigern's, like the other small churches of Mt Herbert parish, including the Church of the Epiphany, is popular for weddings and other celebrations because of its picturesque location and quaint character.
