I've long-since given up thinking there are 7 wonders of the world. I'm discovering new ones every day, whether it be the Grand Canal in Venice, the incredible views above cloud-level in the Schwartzwald, Gaudi's incredible dream-like home for souls in Barcelona or, like today, the stunning Alhambra. First built around 890ad by Arab wealthy and powerful, it was extended and improved by successive generations, each branding it with their own understanding. Today's invaders are mostly from the Far East, armed with selfie sticks and parasols, wearing face masks and cutting an impossible pace between sights. But none of this detracts from the incredible beauty and ingenuity of the massive fortress, trading post, centre of worship, summer home, government centre and city of the Alhambra. It's kitted out with features such as self-defence mechanisms, flushing loos, air-conditioning that relies on architecture not amps, and design that pleases the eye, cheers the heart and lifts the imagination. Wonderful.

We are now about to embark on a search for the next wonder of the world, a great place to eat, at a great price, with great service and a great view. Having been in Granada for a few days I am very optimistic!
