Mediterranean Egypt
A day of firsts - first Egyptian train ride and first time in Alexandria.
The arrival in the train station will be remembered because of the most aggressive taxi drivers we've encountered for a long time and the experience included our getting into one taxi having agreed on the rate to the hotel with the driver, who drove us round the block, got out and handed his taxi over to another driver who got in and didnt agree with the rate and wanted four times as much. We got out while he almost drove away with our bags in the boot!
Anyway, we got here to this gorgeous view and lovely to see and smell the sea again! What a tonic after the pollution of Cairo. Much as I've got an affection for the city, you can't get away from the pollution. We're now having dinner in the Greek Club, which is very well known here for its view and our Greek salad's just arrived with freshly baked, hot baladi bread!
I'm interested to see how I feel after a weekend here, especially as I've been approached to do some work here for the main university.
