Day13 - Aquatica and Chef's Table
After the long day and excitement of the wedding yesterday we decided (I decided, Mr L was not so keen but acquiesced) to try out the new swimwear and head for a water park. When we here in 92 we bought some cheap Disney imitation towels and took the boys to wet and wild twice. We all had good fun, so, after breakfast we nipped next door to the fake Disney shop and $40 later emerged with two supersize ( we are bigger than average people) towels. Not so cheap any more.
So, swimwear donned under our clothes we took the itrolley to Aquatica, as wet and wild is no more. Now, if anyone over 60 is reading this, heed this warning....do not bother unless you have grandchildren with you. We arrived and paid $10 for an all day locker rental, but there are no changing rooms or any such luxury. Strip in the locker room, or nip into a restroom. We managed to divest ourselves of everything but necessities and headed for the beach area. No loungers in the shade, just the ones under the blazing, burning 96 degree sun. So, new factor 30 (50 for the first 10 days) smothered over our white bodies we headed for the beach area. Oh that sand was burning! Dipped in the water and realised it was mainly children around us! Back to the lounger for a rethink and made or way to the rides. Past the ones with diving, past the ones that involved long hikes up stairs, past the whirly things.....Mr L was not up for any of these. Eventually he agreed to join me in a rubber ring thing and bob along the rapids. I think we provided some entertainment to the othe 'bobbers' as they seemed to be smiling at us as we bobbed precariously (bigger than average people) on a blow up double ring. We exited for a drink and at this point Mr L declared he couldn't walk barefoot on the burning concrete any more. Back to the lounger for his trainers before setting off for the bigger Rapids. This time we didn't use a ring, just a safety jacket. We put ours on and Mr L placed his shoes in a 'sneaker keeper'. Off we went, good fun and as I exited I noticed Mr L bob straight past the exit. He managed to get out at the next point and went to retrieve his shoes. Not there. Bearing in mind he was wearing them because of the hot concrete, we ended up walking round the whole of the rapids to find the correct sneaker keeper. I thought it was very funny. Mr L did not! We decided enough was enough, we are too old to do water parks! Looking on the bright side, we have two huge towels to go to the beach with when we get home! To add insult to injury, a young man stopped us as we headed for the exit and asked if we would fill in a 5 minute survey. 20 minutes later and with a souvenir paper bag as a reward, we finished and managed to leave!
Got back to th hotel and still damp decided to dry out in a lounger around the hotel pool. Much more civilised. Son # 1 called, and we FaceTimed to catch up on each other's news.
Anyone still reading this lengthy tome is wondering by now the significance of the photo. The wedding reception yesterday was at The Boathouse in Disney Springs. Superb! The best filet mignon I have ever eaten. Tonight the happy couple took us to dinner at The Chef's Table in Winter Garden. Again, fabulous. A restaurant of a certain quality and again, superb. The picture is of some of the dishes from the last couple of days.
Back at the hotel, Mr L is already snoring and I have just looked in the mirror as I cleaned my teeth and realised that the cheap factor 30 was more like a factor 10. I have some very red and pink body parts.
18th May - happy birthday Dad, and to my Stalker, if you are reading this, where are the photos from last night????
