Kan Wakan
Another brilliant day in Sofia. We had a slow start, given our long day yesterday (actually, its past midnight now, so day before!). We got up for the hotel breakie - some lovely Bulgarian things like local yoghurt (Bulgarian's love their natural yoghurt), honey and banitsa, some 'English breakfast' style stuff, then some totally random things like rice, peas and sweetcorn! Asked our Bulgarian-American friend about this and he said that someone must have told them that that's what foreign people eat for breakfast and definitely not Bulgarian!
Relaxed in the hotel for a whole, then met our friends and went to a cool place for lunch. They specialise in a BBQ ground meat patty (Q-something?!) and it was amazing! Met up with a friend of our friends, Ruth, who is a local singer and evidently pretty well known in Bulgaria. She took us to a cool rooftop cafe with amazing views.
In the evening, we went to another Jazz cafe where one member of our group, a Brazilian called Fernando, ended up playing with the band. Ate some lovely food, the headed to another bar, a place lit by only
candle light with a pianist and double bass player doing a set. We then headed to another bar, before calling it a night.
Oh, I also took a Polaroid of our group and gave it to a one of the group, a Bulgarian woman, who has only ever seen polaroids in films. She has a wall of photos of her friends, and it was lovely to contribute to that!
The pic is from the lunch place - the poster on the right is our Bulgarian friend for his show on Sunday. It's all over the city.
