Sea and sand
We were already in Newcastle, weren’t we, so almost there anyway. (More Dante this morning, no noise as we have changed rooms, but we haven’t reached Paradise yet)
Turned out sunny, so it would have been foolish not to go, wouldn’t it.
And we wanted some fish, and fish and chips, so no choice really.
We returned to Craster, collected Gordon’s bicycle pump that he had left at the house we stayed in two weeks ago, bought some fish, went onto Bamburgh and walked on the beach by the sea, had fish and chips in Seahouses and meandered our way back via Rothbury and the Military Road. A long way to go for a pump, but it made a good excuse. A great day.
The photo is Bamburgh beach, it was quite busy with a lot of dog walkers and some school groups having a great time, but we walked on past them all and had the expanse of sand virtually to ourselves.
Of course, if I had swung round, I could have taken a picture of the castle, but I'm not keen on it. It dominates everything, has no link with ‘real’ castles, being a baronial hall or stately home pretending to be a castle. It costs a fortune to get in and attracts so many visitors that Bamburgh is full of people, even on the quietest of days. You have to know the secret parking spots to get away from them all – we do! Of course, it attracts so many photographers, but I think the sea and sand is preferable. (If you really want to see it, there is a picture in extras.)
