Operatic Busker

The first full day of a weekend break in Madrid.

We headed to the Royal Palace, going via the Opera House, where we were treated to some high class operatic busking. We then walked down to the Royal Palace. The queue to get in was enormous so we poked our lenses through the gates and then went to the cathedral.

At the cathedral I had to use my Pacemaker card again to bypass the scanner - I hadn't thought about the number of popular places with security scanners now.

Up in to the cupola for some great views over the city. We then wandered up to Plaza Mayor. This has some wonderful buildings, some covered in frescos, however, as this was where the first stones were laid in Madrid 400 years ago it had a large stage for some of teh festivities to be performed on, which blocked the view.

We did stop to watch some traditional dancing before moving on to a 24 hour Chocolateria where we had to have chocolate and cheeros.

Finally we headed to the Faro de Moncloa, a large viewing platform giving more great views, though as there it was all inside, we were fighting reflections on the glass when trying to take photos. This was my second security check of the day, so out with the card again.
