Reach for the sky
In 1909 the Short brothers, Horace, Oswald and Eustace, opened a factory at Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey to build aeroplanes. They immediately started producing a batch of six aircraft and thus became the first factory in the world to start volume production of an aircraft design. In 1915 they moved to a larger site near Borstal where they continued building seaplanes which were launched along a slipway into the Medway. Thus I can tie together yesterday's blip with today. The other connection is that I was in a prison again today.........
This statue is on the site of the original factory and is rather tucked away down a dead-end lane but the weather was lovely and I thought the blue sky would make a nice backdrop.
