This morning...
....a lot of listening to figure out the difference between the collared dove and the wood pigeon.
I thought the noises I had heard was all collared dove. But the ChirpOMatic app told me both Collared Dove and Wood Pigeon were singing/making noises. So kept recording their sounds until I had two definitely different recordings. And a definite ID for each.
I have seen both birds in my garden.
There was a pattern to the collared dove's sounds. You can probably tell I did the sounds linearly for both birds from left to right. With each 'line' of sounds, they varied slightly. Sometimes there was a small curved sound after the first two curves, or there might be one at the end of the two lines.
The Wood Pigeon had more variation in each line. Basically there were the set of three lines each time, very similar, but the more I listened the lines of notes appeared to be more different, though at first listening the three lines were more similar.
I listened for about a couple of hours. It was pleasant out, although windy. I know which is Collared Dove now and which is Wood Pigeon.
I was tired after that so had a midday nap!
This is my pic today for my challenge to myself of a pic every day in 2017. Pencil used from HB to 8B.
[This is my artist's perception of sounds as they are now after being drastically changed after the remapping of my cochlear processor. I am readjusting to the different sounds, which are actually vastly different, as it is now suggested I was never mapped properly in the first place which is why I have struggled the last few years.]
