Mom

It's Mothers Day in the US today, and in honor of my mom I've blipped an old picture of her from 1944. She joined the Civil Air Patrol as a Cadet while in High School in 1943,  and began studying  in preparation for her flying lessons.  When she turned 16 she began flying with an instructor, logged her required flight hours, completed her solo flight & obtained her license. She said this picture was taken shortly after she'd gotten her license, and that this was the plane she'd done her solo in. She stopped flying after she and my dad were married, as she said they couldn't afford the cost of renting the plane. Years ago my mom and I flew to St. Louis together (on a commercial flight), and it was one of the roughest flights I'd ever been on! I was white knuckled and gripping the arm rests, thinking I was going to be sick, when I looked at my mother----she was grinning from ear to ear, and said "Isn't this FUN"?  (nope--somehow I got all the scardy cat genes!!)  :)))
