Fields of chamomile
This is Croatia's famed chamomile which claims a wide range of health benefits. I'm told the locals drink either of two hot beverages: coffee and chamomile. Apparently ordinary teas don't feature much. This image taken in the east, near to the Hungarian border.
There's an interesting complexity to harvesting and selling chamomile: farmers get paid more for the whole flower as opposed to crushed bits (though much of it ends up in tea in that form), and organically grown (this image is organic) earns much more than regular chamomile.
Today's extra blip is a plug for the noble Boskarin cow, indigenous to Istria, almost falling into extinction when the Yugoslav government decided it wasn't worth keeping, and now being slowly resuscitated as a local icon.
