Day 8 - Lake Toho, Kissimee, Epcot
Our planning seems to have gone a tad awry today. We had planned a lazy day at a water park and got up to a murky cloudy day. Having looked at the map, we decided to take an uber to Lake Toho, which promised from the literature to be a wonderful waterside location with airboat trips and not far from downtown Kissimee. It was a lovely lake with lots of birds I was not sure of, but have since identified as Anhinga and Little blue herons and some kind of Ibis. That was it though, we walked along the boardwalk looking for alligators and snapping the birds, also saw Osprey hunting. No boat tours, just lots of families out enjoying a lakeside BBQ with the kids, all doing their own thing. Out came the map again and we decided to walk to the old tow . We had passed a great afternoon here in 92. What a shame it had changed so much. Firstly most of the shops were closed, and secondly it was mainly bars and eateries. Mr L spotted one shop that was open however, pictured and spent some time conversing with the owner. No matter where in the world we are, he will find the music store! All in all disappointing.
Back with uber, and got half way back to the hotel when the heavens opened. They stayed open for the next couple of hours, chucking it down. We decided to eat at Applebee's as it is just on the next block, and if the rain had ceased enough we would go back to Epcot for the evening firework display.
We won't bother with Applebees again, for the first time since we got here, the service lacked somewhat. And what is it with the mashed potato in America? I hate mash, but the Applebee's lady was not going to allow a substitution, ' no Ma'am, it won't be right'. I chose a different meal, without mash, and it was nice but she was abrupt and unwelcoming.
Grabbed an uber, and got a nice spot to watch the display. Amazing, fabulous and once again Mr L remained impassive. LC does it just as good is what he said! Now, I love LC, and we do fireworks really well, but on a par with Disney? Oh come on!!!
