Mining in Minnesota
Anna and I are headed up for some mother/daughter time on Lake Superior. This is Two Harbors. Up in the hills away from the lake is what is known as The Iron Range, or "The Range". The Mining Industry is not much compared to what it used to be and always seems to be controversial. In this area the taconite is brought down, formed into pellets and taken by ship through the Great Lakes. Watching these ships come in an out of this small harbor is quite interesting. Bob Dylan grew up on The Range and recorded "North Country Blues" which talks about the hardship of mining life and the closing of the mines.
