Slow worm
Which, of course, is not a worm at all but a legless lizard. Not legless in the drunk connotation but lacking of legs. A last minute contender for today's blip. I had a photo of our cottage in the Peak District lined up but this turned out to be far more interesting.
We were out walking around Bearsted after getting home when I spotted what appeared to be something dead on the pavement by the road. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be alive and in danger of being squashed either by passers-by or by vehicles if it strayed onto the road. Susan picked it up, allowed me to photograph it then placed it in a secure grassy verge well away from danger. Unfortunately, I only had my iPhone with me which is why it is slightly out of focus.
We'd travelled down from the Peak District this morning, mainly a good journey except for a terribly slow section from Chappel-en-le-Frith to Chesterfield and another long delay on M1 around junction 19 caused by a broken down lorry in the roadworks.
The evening was spent at the Kent Referees' Society Annual Dinner at the Great Danes Hotel. The guest speaker was John Taylor, a flanker and a member of the glorious Welsh teams of the 1970s and also of the great British Lions team who won in New Zealand in 1971. Surprisingly, despite his associations with Wales he lives in Kent near Goudhurst.
