Robin by the River

A car journey from Glasgow to Pitlochry stopping en route at Dunkeld for lunch. Warm and sunny so a walk up to the National Trust Hermitage was next on the agenda.

The Hermitage was originally an extension to the landscaped pleasure grounds of Dunkeld House designed to contrast the wild gorge of the River Brasn with the gentle banks of the River Tay. Right from the start, in 1757, successive Dukes of Atholl planted trees to enhance the landscape. A few Douglas Firs were planted here in the 1860's but most are relative youngsters planted as recently as 1920. Good soil and sheltered conditions have allowed the trees to grow to a great height.

I heard this little robin before I spotted him on one of the branches overhanging the river.
