Kereru
This morning I had been out and hung the washing out and as I was coming back inside Teach pointed out that there was a kereru (our native wood pigeon) in one of our trees eating the tiny berries. He stayed there and I was able to get quite close to it. He is watching me closely. I love the colours on these birds and the sound of their wings when flying. They are rather heavy birds and have to beat their wings hard and they make a dip in their flight path. The usually only fly short distances.
I have included this in the wild Wednesday as I am wild about these birds.
