U-Bahn München: 89/100 Studentenstadt
Munich Underground: 89/100 Studentenstadt
Not even a week since my last entry in my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series and yet again a rather unexciting underground stop: Studentenstadt underground station. It was opened in October 1971 as part of Munich's very first underground line. On an outbound journey on a U6 train it is the first above ground underground station; the following four stops at Freimann, Kieferngarten, Fröttmaning, and Garching-Hochbrück are located above ground as well, before the trains descend into the darkness again.
Its location above ground is also its main design feature, as it is otherwise quite average.
The station is named after the adjacent Studentenstadt student housing complex, the second largest such complex in Munich after the Olympic Village.
It's my first mono in the series - the yellow light would have been too much otherwise.
Design-wise, from hereon onwards means upwards.
Happy Europe Day!
