Guernsey celebrates Liberation Day

Guernsey is marking Liberation Day today, it is a local Bank Holiday.
It’s the 72nd anniversary of the end of the Nazi Occupation of Guernsey and Jersey.
Sark was liberated on the 10th May 1945 and as Alderney had been fully evacuated it celebrates the anniversary of Homecoming Day in December when island residents returned home.

We took this photo from Belvedere overlooking St Peter Port, plenty of things going on in town and the crowds came. We looked to the right and it was also nice to see some young people out in their optimist sailing boats. (shown in the extra)
We then spent some time at home apart from a drive down to the west coast and then picking up our son and family from the airport. They had a great time with Great Grandpa.
Across the island there are lots of flags flying in the stiff breeze which is lovely to see. Miss T has gone to enjoy a picnic on the beach with her friend.
Extras are taken on the west coast.  Fort Grey (cup and saucer as it is known locally) and the sparkly sea.
