A pretty immigrant

Be it head, be it tail,
a coin provides scale:
this pound, round and shiny,
looms large beside tiny
ivy-leaved toadflax
on our garden wall.

This miniature wall-trailing beauty, ivy-leaved toadflax (Cymallaria muralis) is not a native plant,  though its presence in the British Isles goes back 400 years. It is thought to have been brought to London from the Mediterranean region with marble slabs imported from Italy in the mid-1600s. It's now widely naturalised and very common throughout Britain and Ireland, except for some parts of northern Scotland.
