Reality Checkpoint Lamp-post.
This lamp-post stands at the intersection of two diagonal paths on Parker's Piece, Cambridge, and is commonly known as 'Reality Checkpoint'. It marks the spot where the hub of Cambridge University on the left ends and the 'real world' of Cambridge City begins to the right.
A gas or electric lamp-post was requested by residents in 1893. Cambs Electric Company offered free electric for a year and it was erected in 1894. The name 'Reality Checkpoint' was first painted on by students in the 70's. Later they decorated it with red paint during 'Rag Week' A brass plaque was attached in Jan 1998 and by July the same year it had disappeared. The words 'Reality Checkpoint have since been crudely scratched into the paintwork by an unknown person.
