Relay Day

This is shortly after the mass start where competitors are heading out on their course. To avoid following the courses are "gaffled" (a Swedish name meaning forking). The courses are of similar length but different controls may be used. This photo shows this lady going to a different control than those on the track. Those on the track were then split up again to go to different controls. The key is to ensure you are concentrating on navigating rather than blindly following the runners in front.

Teams of three run as individuals handing over to each other with a touch of hands. The first team back wins if all the controls have been visited correctly. A mispunch on the men's open class led to the second team winning.

A real challenge after the long courses yesterday. I found it particularly tough due to a lack of fitness.
