Lifeboatmen

Over the last few days I have been visiting my Mother in St Annes, Fylde.

In 1886, 27 men from St Annes and Southport lost their lives trying to save the crew on the German barque "Mexico".  This is the memorial to those brave men from St Annes who lost their lives.  According to Wikipedia  "It was the worst disaster in the history of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution."
