Sanctuary stone
In the Middle Ages the town of Beverley was a safe sanctuary for those who were fleeing the law. The sanctuary area extended for a mile radius around the tomb of St John of Beverley and the extent of the sanctuary was marked by stones on each of the roads out of the town. You can still see remains of three of the stones and I've spent the afternoon trying to track them down. (One in the main picture and the other in extras.)
