Return to the North

By Viking

Not the best shot of the day but...

Headed out to Alkborough Flats this morning for a walk. It is about 6 miles away from where I live but had only ever visited a couple of times since last year, mainly because i thought would be boggy in winter. Heard from a fellow twitcher that in fact was fine underfoot so after several weeks of almost non existent rain I headed down.
Well what a discovery! Instead of heading right which I did last time I went left and discovered miles of tracks and a hide or two. It was bloody chilly and windy but I soldiered on and was rewarded with distant views of avocets, a couple of pintails, little egrets, wimbrels etc. And then the piece de resistance - a couple of marsh harriers having a good old fight/courtship. They were too far away to get truly decent shots of or to see if male/female or male/male but I took A LOT of shots anyway and watched delightedly for about 15 minutes while they had their tussle. This shot is a slightly sharper shot than some but if you want to check out one of one of the bids flying upside down check out my flickr page here
Oh and I walked another 12,000 steps. Well and  truly buggered now and tomorrow is the Lord's day so might have a rest!
