Smithills Hall Library

A lovely sunny day so Mr MD and I decided to pay a visit to Smithills Hall, Bolton.     Unfortunately, the Hall was undergoing renovation so parts of it were hidden by scaffolding.   But the Hall itself was open and so quiet we had it to ourselves.   This is an impressive 17th century edition of the historian John Fox’s 'Book of Martyrs'. The book rests open on the pages relating to George Marsh who was a Protestant Martyr burned at the stake in 1555.  We'll definitely return when the renovations are completed.
