Trying something...
...a bit different today.
This is a 6 inch by 6 inch canvas. The painting went round the edges of the canvas so you have a tree either side of the front bit, and you have the water extended at the base of the canvas and the sky over the top of the canvas. This is something I had always wanted to do. So, this is a bit of an awkward looking photo to show this. The painting is a little more turquoisy than this photo. I took a dozen pics to try and get a likeness but they ended up a faded blue. This was the best photo.
I will probably do a couple more of these, and then that is my urge to paint beyond the actual front bit satisfied.
This is in acrylics, but done thinly on a white gessoed canvas, and then dabbed out to give this kind of effect. And then another thin layer of acrylics, dabbed out and so on until I got the depth I wanted. Then I did the land, trees and water and built up the depth in this way.
I enjoyed doing this painting. It was relaxing and therapeutic. It was a slow way of working, and it was an experiment that seems to work, and I rather like that effect created by painting thin layers and then dabbing them out. And repeating until I get the depth I want.
I need a present for someone, and will probably do a set of three of these, or maybe four and choose the best three.
I painted a clear coat of acrylic on the top.
So, this is my pic for today, for my challenge to myself of a pic every day in 2017.
Today, I should have gone out all day, but yesterday tired me out and I couldn't sleep last night. Awake all night. Then fell asleep at dawn!
I was still going to go out, but Popeye was mithering me. He kept yowling at me...at least that is what I think the noise was...it was an attitude of yowling as he came up to me on the swing, got my attention and then walked to the potting shed. I ignored him because I was going out.
But then he made his point very clear. And then I realised it seemed like he was telling me I should be spending the day on my bed in the potting shed. It was sunny although very windy. So, I went and unlocked it. He got on the bed and stayed there while I got my stuff and a drink in. Then when I got on the bed he looked at me and then went trotting off!
A bit later on I went in the bungalow to get another drink and something to eat, but Popeye appeared from nowhere and was yowling at me again. (I had been half thinking of going out, there was still time, but Popeye often seems to know what I am thinking of) And he was trying to lead me into the potting shed again. So, I dutifully followed the cat , and he sat by the potting shed door until I was settled on the bed again, and then went off.
So I texted and cancelled my arrangements. I did need this rest to unwind after yesterday (even though yesterday was good). I didn't catch up on sleep, I couldn't fall asleep, but just relaxed.
This was the pattern for the afternoon. Each time I returned to the bungalow for something, Popeye appeared to make sure I returned to the potting shed!
