A sea of colour in Rannerdale
We visited Rannerdale today to see its renowned bluebells and were certainly not disappointed. Rather than hiding in woodland the Rannerdale bluebells cover the open fells. When you add in the fantastic gorse (see extras) and the hawthorn blossom the whole valley was a sea of colour and we had lovely sunshine in which to enjoy it.
Later we took a walk around the head of Crummock Water. There was a really strong wind at times whipping up waves on the lake and at one point I was very nearly blown over. I was quite glad we had opted for a low-level walk today.
There was one thing that confused me; all the maps and books refer to Rannerdale but the National Trust sign on the gate about protecting the bluebells called it Rannadale. Any one know why? Was it just a typo on the sign?
