This little piggy went to market...

...and came back with venison steak, chicken liver pate, squigeon casserole, a selection of wee pies and some home made tomato sauce. :-) Today was the first birthday of Stockbridge Market and it had a bit of a carnival atmosphere, there was live music playing and lots of festive special offers and balloons and stuff going on.

I stopped by my two favourite stalls to get some goodies to eat during the week, including a tub of squigeon casserole (that's wild grey squirrel and wood pigeon).

For a small local market it is actually very international, with food types from all over the world available, to eat on the spot or take home to cook. There are the expected local food stuffs, including game, beef, lamb, pork, vegetables plus curries, french cheeses, Italian gelato, Spanish paella (pictured above), olives, fudge, jams, cakes, pies, spices even sushi. And a variety of other stuff, including woodwork, leather work, silk scarves, jewellery, records, cds and other assorted bric-a-brac.

Always worth a visit on a Sunday afternoon before enjoying a pint or two at ye olde public house ;-)
