Presidio Pet Cemetery

One of my favorite places to visit in San Francisco -- still feeling the effects of nearby construction but by next year it ought to be tidied up and ready for visitors.  I actually like its unkempt appearance.  It's a very touching place to visit.  When the Presidio in San Francisco was an army base the pet cemetery was for the families of those stationed there.  It contains everything from parakeets to hamsters and birds, all with charming little headstones describing the beloved pet buried there.  I hope they have somebody lined up to be the caretaker.
