Threave Castle
It has been a bank holiday here, the sun shone and it was a beautiful warm afternoon. A friend and I ended up at Threave Castle because we wanted to go for a short walk but also to see the osprey nest nearby.
The castle was built in 1369 for Sir Archibald Douglas, but he was apparently better known as Archibald the Grim! You see towers like this elsewhere in Scotland and I assume they were built like this for defensive purposes.
We did get a glimpse of the ospreys in the distance, there are eggs in the nest now, but the birds are kept well away from humans.
