Derelict Sunday: 6 million years +/-
And that's getting up there in years! This is a common type of outcropping, cliff or riverside rock in this region: Columbia River Flood Basalt. These basalts were deposited in a series of volcanic eruptions between 17.5 and 6 million years ago and cover an area of approximately 164,000 km2 ! A wonderful weekend in Portland, and drive back to the gorge was beautiful with fabulous cloud formations spread across the sky.
The extra is a shrub with an unusual flower seen on a walk with Sue in Portland early this morning.
