Marathon Man

Today was the Royan Marathon. More about this in a mo. This gent was playing in the band supporting the event. What a racket. Loads of bum notes. This gent told me that he is 75 years old. Didnt get his name (always get the name - elementary requirement:Ed). He has been playing the hunting horn non stop for 60 years (not even for lunch? Clarify: Ed). 


Anyway, they were certainly spurring on the runners, including Marianne - see extra. It seemed to be a multiple distance event, this being the half-way point. Some were doing the full marathon distance, others  the half marathon and finishing here. Yet others doing one or the other as a relay team and swapping over. 

It should have been a chaotic shambles but actually seemed to be very well organised. Even drinks and bits of orange being handed out before the buses ferried the participants back to the start. 

Later I walked past a couple of runners sitting on a wall. I applauded them and said Bien Fait. They scowled back at me. I asked if they had finished. Non! they sneered back at me. Whoops! That'll teach me to be friendly.
