Before the sun really shone

Despite the weather we have had a lovely weekend. Friends have stayed with us; Marama ensured that the koha (the gift given to those who welcome you to their home) was substantial, and unexpected. The quality and quantity of food could not be faulted. All I had to do was make repeated pots of coffee, pour the wine and clean up after the cooks. And relax, eat and enjoy.

Even the fact that for almost the whole time they were her, it was raining, failed to put a damper on the weekend. Which was made even better by daughter J staying from Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon, and daughter C and her boys spending yesterday afternoon with us.

Much political conversation, as well as ex-teachers reminiscing, poetry being read, as well as jokes and laughter.

This morning, while the rain was still falling, there were gaps in the clouds through which the bright sunlight shone on the water of Kawau Bay. Almost made up for not being able to see Little Barrier beyond Tawharanui peninsula at the mouth to the bay.
