Northumberland Day 4 - The Puffins!!!

We saw them! I love them!
We were so, so, lucky.  We were booked on a sailing to the Farne Islands this morning, but for the third day it was cancelled.  I was gutted.  We'd already extended our trip by one night as we'd been unsuccessful.  We were so sure we'd sail today.  Anyway, the person at the company we'd booked with said there were no sailings as the wind was picking up again.  We decided to drive to Lindesfarne again, as the sea was much calmer and we thought that the causeway might be a little less scary.  On the way I was pondering... I remembered that one of the companies offering trips to the Farnes used catamarans.  We assumed that if one firm wasn't sailing, they all weren't - otherwise surely they'd have suggested we check the others, as they knew we'd been trying to sail for three days and had to go home tomorrow.  However, as I thought that the catamarans might be more stable and could possibly be sailing -  we rang,  And they were - at 11:45!!  So we excitedly booked and carried on to do a quick round of Holy Island, before heading back!  I didn't allow myself to get too excited in case the trip was cancelled - but it sailed as promised.  And it was spectacular!!!  I've never been on a better excursion in my life.  We saw so many different seabirds nesting on the towering cliffs, and thousands of seals (see extras). But despite the magnificence of them all I only truly had eyes for the puffins!  They are just glorious!!!  I'm very, very, happy to have seen them.  And so thankful that the seed was sewn in my mind to call the other company (Serenity Boat Trips).
After the Farne Islands, we had a late lunch in the hotel, then went for a walk on the beach.  The tide was coming in fast, so we took refuge in the dunes (see extras). We then had another curry. :-)
What a wonderful day!!! :-)
