Life in Sunny Dubai

ALIVE

Well. Today was the day of the Hillsong United concert! It finally arrived; we'd bought the tickets ages ago so it felt a bit surreal. As it is a "school night" for G, we had a lazy afternoon. Glad we left home when we did though because it was very BUSY! For the first time ever, a non-secular music group have had a two night gig; I had tried to get tickets for yesterday but they were understandably sold out. Today's was definitely sold out as well, in fact, I think if they had a third show, that would be sold out too.

The queue to get the wrist band was LONG, followed by an even longer maze walk to get let into the stadium (argh). Got there and the pit was already full of people (see my extra for some more pictures). They had the usual "thank you's" to the organisers, helpers, Rulers of the land... and then, starting with the 1812 Overture (??), the band came on and everyone just unconsciously rose to their feet! I think my heart sank when I realised it was Hillsong UNITED and not just Hillsong.

The youth band of this Australian church have done some cool songs (the title of my journal being the coolest of them all), but most of them aren't very melodious or easy to sing along to. I was reminded why I stopped listening to their music... Anyway, they played Alive and saved the day and we left shortly after, discussing the state of Christian music today as we walked back to the car!

And before that, we had an early start for the OaSis meeting which today was about giving your testimony and/or sharing... G was called on first - she did very well. I managed to escape! :)  We actually managed to get a proper group photo today as the lady holding the roses is leaving Dubai imminently and it is her last time with us. :(

PS. A very exciting thing at the concert was finding out that Planetshakers are playing in Abu Dhabi next month. Already booked the tickets... :D
