A delightful garden
Jerry and I drove up to Rose Hill, an 1800's home of one of South Carolina governors that is now a state park. It is not a huge property but the house is very interesting and the gardens are small with a tiny maze that takes you all around. The main flowers growing there are roses and irises. There are also camellia bushes but they are not blooming now.
It was interesting to learn that Mary Elizabeth Gist, the daughter of Governor Gist, painted the art in the sitting room. The paintings were embroidery, watercolors and some other materials. Each painting held a handwritten letter..too small to read without a magnifying glass. And of course, the ranger was right there with us so I could not get any closer with the camera! One of the paintings is in the extras.
Thanks Anni for hosting Flower Friday!
